The Laterality (LT/RT) Modifier

Anatomical modifier LT/RT provides the necessary differentiation between right and left for CPT codes that do not designate the area or part of the body on which the procedure was performed.

Enable the Laterality Modifier

To use, the modifier must be turned on in the Company Fee Schedule. Follow the steps below to complete the setup process.

1. In the upper right corner of the app, click the clinic name, and then select Company Fee Schedule from the drop-down menu.
2. Under the Modifiers section, click the Active checkmark for the LT/RT Laterality Modifiers.
3. Click the Save button to apply.
4. This will make the LT/RT modifier option available in the billing section of the SOAP note. As shown below, once an applicable CPT code in the Splints/Orthotics grouping is selected, a Left or Right checkbox appears to indicate a particular side. Select both options for bilateral treatment.
